Shopping
Second to the weather, shopping figures high amongst some UK visitors. It must be said that the camping is not easily accessible to large shops without a little bit of a journey. For day-to-day necessities, the camping shop is there for you, but sooner or later you're going to need to go to the supermarket to do a 'proper shop'.
From La Taillade go up to Neuveglise for small local shops, the chemist and some garage services. For the supermarket you will probably wish to go to Saint-Flour where you will find Champion and Intermarche. Probably the easiest is to turn left at the roundabout as you approach St-Flour from the south and to head toward the commercial centre where you will find Champion and a number of larger stores catering for many of your requirements - sport and camping equipment; DIY; garage services and you can even get your tractor repaired if the need arises!
St-Flour is divided into two distinct parts: the upper and lower town. From the commercial centre you might like to travel into the upper town where there are more, smaller, specialist shops, cafes and restaurants off the narrow, winding streets. You will be sitting on top of the 'plug' of an extinct volcano where you will be able to look down the scarp slope to the lower town below. The lucky people used to live in the upper, fortified part of the town leaving the remainder, the poorer, less important folk, to fend for themselves in times of peril.
For less adventurous shopping you may wish to head south from La Taillade through Gros, Lanau taking the D921 south to Chaudes Aigues where there are a number of smaller shops, chemists, banks as well as garage services and a filling stations. It is worth visiting the hot springs too as there is quite an interesting museum there.
Of course, if you wish to eat in the camping, the restaurant is open in the evenings for meals, during the main season, from 19:00 - 21:30 for a range of fresh, home-cooked meals catering for all tastes.
